WON 21-19

A fantastic game of rugby between two well-matched sides. Epsom kicked off downhill and managed to keep the lion's share of the territory in the first half, albeit Brighton did well to dominate possession. The move that lead to the only try of the first half started with Finn Walmsley (H) taking a composed catch at full back from a Brighton clearance. He used his pace to gain back lost ground and a few phases later Oliver Mullen (P), who had an excellent first game back from injury, bulldozed over the line to score under the posts. Walmsley slotted the conversion. The second half was always going to be tougher, with Epsom playing up the slope. Brighton capitalised early, scoring three tries in relatively quick succession. A missed conversion from Brighton would ultimately prove to be decisive, but at this stage Epsom still had their work cut out. The ebb and flow finally went Epsom's way after the third restart, with Charlie Day (C) using his enviable left foot to fly hack a ball up into the Brighton half. Although he did not quite manage to re-gather the ball, the ground he had made up set the scene for an excellent try by Jack Rich (H), who made the most of an ever-shrinking portion of the pitch to go over in the corner. Walmsley then pulled off a quite extraordinary conversion to bring the score to 19-14 in Brighton's favour. Further exertion of pressure by Epsom took them back into the Brighton half. The payoff was a penalty 5 metres from the try line, with Ollie King (Rn) cutting in off a good line to go over. Walmsley converted again to bring the final score to 21-19. Walmsley was also responsible for the highlight of the game - an extraordinary covering tackle into touch to stop what looked like an almost certain Brighton try.

Tries: Mullen (P), Rich (H), King (Rn)

Player of the Match: Finn Walmsley (H)
