WON 22-15

This was an evenly contested affair, with impressive rugby played by both sides. Brighton broke the early stalemate with a stroke of individual brilliance - a chip and chase from the touchline leading to an extraordinary try. Epsom responded well with sustained pressure until Fraser Law (Rn) was unleashed in the corner to make it 5-5. Brighton struck a penalty from the 10 metre line and it was evenly contested for the remainder of the half. Brighton kicked off the second half and managed to recover possession, putting Epsom under pressure in their 22, until a miraculous turnover by Lucas Schmid (Fa) and an offload to Will Harris (Fa) led to a crowd-pleasing end-to-end try to give Epsom a 12-8 lead. Following this, Epsom seemed to gain confidence and began to play some exquisite rugby. Tom Williams (Fa) made a barn-storming run and finished it with a lovely try to make it 17-8 before Brighton responded with a well-worked try of their own under the posts from the back of a scrum to reduce the deficit to just two. The heavens opened and Epsom responded well to the slippery conditions. Kit Temperley (Rn) gained a foothold on the opposition’s 5 metre line and Tom Glynne-Percy (G) scored in the corner from the lineout. Brighton controlled the final phases, but Epsom defended well to secure a hard-earned victory.
