Match Report
Epsom College Girls-U12C vs  St John's School, Leatherhead
On: Saturday, 01 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

Lost 1-4

The Epsom girls fought hard on a wet and grey morning at St John’s but emerged on the wrong end of the scoreline. The two teams were very closely matched, and the only real difference between them was a little composure in front of goal; there were certainly many positives to take away from the match. Epsom started brightly but gave the opposition players a little too much room and respect for the first ten minutes, conceding twice through one well-taken goal and one rather fortunate effort. A steely resolve then set in and the players battled hard for every ball, pushing higher up the pitch and showing more intent in the opposition circle. Following some encouragement at half time, the pattern continued, and when Georgie Watkin (GH) slotted home from close range, all of the momentum seemed to be with the Epsom team. The girls pushed hard for an equaliser, but this stretched play and gave both teams chances at either end. Millie Milne (Hu) in goal produced a string of excellent saves, but eventually one of the St John’s players found the backboard, and then another cruel deflection from an Epsom stick resulted in a fourth goal for the opposition. Bella Hibbert (GH) was a rock in defence, dominating opposition attackers, and Lottie Edwards (GH) bravely soldiered through after a goal-bound ball hit her knee. Sophie Brittain (GH) also had some super touches in attack to release team mates. Well done to all of the Epsom players, and commiserations that the score did not reflect the true nature of the match.

Goal Scorer: Watkin (GH)

Player of the Match: Sophie Bustard (Wa) - for her work rate in midfield and threat going forward.
