Match Report
Epsom College Boys-U14C vs  Harrow School
On: Saturday, 09 Feb 2019
Venue: Away

WON 1-0

The U14Cs had their game faces on as they knew this would be their toughest match yet and were not going down without a fight. After a hard week of using a new defensive strategy, the team had laser focus and worked very well as a team moving the ball away from the centre of play and down the wings. The Harrow strikers were fast and physical but the defence proved to be a solid wall that they could not work past and anything that made it through was neutralised by George Holmes (G) playing in the sweeper position. The midfield had a big challenge, missing their CDM, but rose to the occasion using the whole pitch to pass to each other and create scoring opportunities. Just before half time, Louis Saint (G) capitalised on a fumbled ball from the Harrow keeper, scoring the only goal of the game. The second half was a defensive game, where Epsom continued their strong communication and effective conservative play. Harrow worked hard to equalise and slipped past the defensive line a few times, but keeper Lucas Schmid (Fa) played a tenacious game, stopping everything that came within the 18 yard box. Impressively confident in all aspects of play Schmid made it impossible for the opponents to find any way to get back into the game. An excellent win from the U14Cs who should be proud of their determination, communication, and hard work. They look to build on their winning season on Wednesday against Christ’s Hospital.

Goal scorer: Saint (G)

Players of the Match: George Holmes (G) - for his excellent reading of the field and ball movement; Lucas Schmid (Fa) - for his steady and calculated play as goalkeeper.
