On: Saturday, 08 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

WON 7-3

It was a tense, attritional contest in wet conditions at St John’s. Both teams found it difficult to adjust to the rain, with knock-ons and dropped balls defining the first quarter. Eventually, Kit Temperley’s (Rn) boot provided a lineout on the St John’s five-metre line from which Kevin Gyamfi (P) took the ball on a hard line to score under the posts. Kit Temperley (Rn) added the conversion to close the half 7-0 up. St John’s started the second half well and put Epsom under pressure as the slippery conditions continued to punish both sides. St John’s took advantage of Epsom’s errors and kicked a penalty to put themselves within reach of victory. However, Epsom’s stalwart defence proved invaluable, with excellent tackles and turnovers from Lucas Schmid (Fa) that continually frustrated the opposition’s best efforts. Epsom held on to the end to win a thrilling local derby.

Try: Gyamfi (P)
