Epsom College Boys-U12A vs  St John's School, Leatherhead
On: Saturday, 08 Dec 2018
Venue: at Home

WON 25-15

The U12A side ended the term in positive fashion in their first taste of a fixture against St John’s. After a slow but steady start, the boys got going following a clever interception try by the ever improving Thabo Kuaho (GH). This lead may have put Epsom's noses in front but the battle at the breakdown, alongside numerous big hits in midfield, continued from the two sides. A series of handling errors let St John’s back in the game before a trademark Oscar Lent (Wa) try, running down the blindside, restored the lead. At half time a 10-5 lead was fair yet still keeping the visitors interested. The final half time team talk ensued with a mixture of tactical and motivational themes. Step forward Ben Berry (GH) to provide a truly wonderful display in the second half leading to two individual tries and some quite devastating hard running lines. The Epsom boys were now relishing moving down the slope, with Casper Curran (Wa) and Dougal Freeman (Hu) finding space and dictating play. However, it was the forwards that made the biggest impact on this half, as Nikolas Moen (Hu), Oliver Crabb (GH), Ed Green (Hu), Jacob Elliott (GH), Fin Stirling and the returning William New (Wa) looked after both the ball and the fringes of the breakdown with typically unselfish work. A late surge from St John's looked to have Epsom on the rack before another Lent try and a heroic recovery tackle by Louis Simmons (Hu) saw Epsom come out 25-15 winners. This game typified the excellent season these fine young men have had. Mr Thompson asked for character and integrity throughout the season and this has been achieved. A huge thank you to the parents who have supported every minute this year.

Tries: Lent (Wa) x2, Berry (GH) x2, Kuaho (GH)
