Epsom College Boys-U16A vs  Cranleigh School
On: Saturday, 22 Sep 2018
Venue: at Home

Lost 20-33

A story of two very different halves. In the first 15 minutes Cranleigh played a fast-flowing game which saw them go ahead. Epsom replied with two penalties from Tom Lynagh (F) and the score stayed at 6-12 for the majority of the half until Cranleigh scored two quick tries that were duly converted. Epsom played catch-up rugby in conditions what were not really suitable for running rugby but played with some good shape in parts. In the second half Epsom upped their game to go through the gears with some really encouraging passages of play. The scrum was as solid as ever, with the lineout functioning well. Epsom scored first playing down the hill with their pick and go game working effectively to see Nikolai Marinov (H) bulldoze his way over. Unfortunately, Cranleigh replied with another try, however this did not deter Epsom who through a fabulous run from Lynagh saw him cruise over under the posts. Going into the last 10 minutes of the game Epsom defended with some intensity, managing to turn the ball over and gain field position, and kicking to the corner they battled to get themselves within 5 metres out. Sadly, the pressure was soaked up by Cranleigh who managed to turn the ball over to end the game. A fantastic response to a poor start gives Epsom plenty of positives to take into their next fixture.

Tries: Marinov (H), Lynagh (F)

Player of the Match: Olaiya Adeniji (F) - for carrying the ball with real purpose over the gain line all afternoon.
