Venue: Away

WON 15-12

After a long journey in which the U14ABCs combined to sing and recount all 39 entries in the inter house choral competition, the clouds cleared and the game began. Epsom made a fast start with good play from the backs pushing forward. After some good rucking to give fast ball John Esson (F) bulldozed through the defence to score. Epsom continued to dominate and five minutes later George Curtis (F) finished off a great team move with another try, converted by Will Hewett (H). Canford rallied but Epsom’s defence stood firm with Thomas Curham (Rn) and Tom Williams (Fa) tackling superbly. After half time unfortunately the team lost discipline and poor handling let them down. Canford pulled back to level the score with two well worked tries. At 12-12, the game was on a knife-edge. After some tactical astuteness, Epsom drove forward thanks to a superb run from Esson. From the next two phases, more ground was gained to be within 10m of the Canford try line. Showing great game awareness Esson popped up at first receiver to take a shot at the drop goal. Time stood still and the ball sailed through the uprights to snatch a last gasp win. The boys celebrated just like Jonny Wilkinson in 2003. A great game and a great win. A quick mention about the impressive number of parents that came down to support all the teams.

Tries: Curtis (F), Esson (F)
