Epsom College 1st VII vs  The Portsmouth Grammar School
On: Saturday, 19 Jan 2019
Venue: Away

WON 33-29

A team made up of just Lower 6th girls took to the court in the second fixture against PGS this week. After the 1st VII’s success on Thursday in the Independent Schools Cup the decision was made to give some other Lower 6th girls the chance to wear the 1st team dress. Grace Crompton (R) came into the squad as centre and Alice Taylor (Rv) as goal keeper. The team started well and by half time were five goals up. Grace then moved to the wing defence position with Elisabeth Phizackerley (Cr) playing centre. The combination worked well and the team edged their lead further ahead. In the shooting circle India Binnie (R) and Ellie Thwaites (M) rarely missed a shot. The partnership between the two shooters is developing every match and India in particular controlled the attacking circle well, communicating and reading off her team mate. The team continued to pull ahead going into the last quarter, nine goals up. In the final quarter PGS came back harder and more determined, forcing the girls to play slightly panicked netball and give passes that were easy to intercept. However, as the quarter progressed the girls got back their control to hang on to the lead and take the win by four goals.
