Epsom College Girls-U14A vs  Lingfield College
On: Monday, 14 Jan 2019
Venue: at Home

WON 24-17

This was a stern test for the Epsom squad of 9, having lost to Lingfield in the National Schools' Tournament last term. A strong start saw the girls turning over the first centre pass and Amelia Thomson (Wh) calmly netted the first goal, giving a psychological advantage. However, it took a while for the team to settle, and weaknesses in attacking connections were exposed. Captain Polly Campbell (Rv) however had an excellent first quarter, making key interceptions against a strong GA, and conversions by Ella Parson (Rv) and Amelia gave Epsom a two goal advantage at quarter time. During the next three quarters the team never lost the lead. This was even more commendable as two squad changes were made each quarter, which consistently took a bit of time to adapt, but this win has highlighted the versatility and depth within the squad alongside the excellent sportsmanship and team spirit the girls displayed. Work is needed on through court attack and circle edge play, but great to see some improvement already since the St John's win. Some fantastic performances from all the girls but Lily Taylor-Fitzgibbon (Rv) was standout for her consistent defensive play, her impressive drives through court and her back up support for the attack. Delphine Ayitey-Hammond (Rv) read the game excellently and was a stalwart at the back as she had been on Saturday. Congratulations girls - lots of work to do but a great start to the season!
