Match Report
Epsom College 1st VII vs  County Tournament
On: Friday, 05 Oct 2018
Venue: Away

Won 10-0 v Harrodian
Won 10-5 v Kings
Lost 7-14 v Putney
Won 14-2 v Kingston Grammar
Lost 5-7 v Streatham and Clapham

The girls faced a tough draw with 3 qualifiers from last year including National Schools finalists. They started strongly and confidently, not allowing Harrodian a single shot at goal with strong defensive pressure through the court.
Kings proved more of a challenge but the girls took an early 5 goal lead which they held on to.
Next they faced a talented Putney team with a dominant shooter who proved hard to deal with and strong mid court defence which the girls were unsure how to counteract. By half time Putney were 9-3 up. The second half was a better performance but it was too little too late.
Going into the final two games the girls knew they had to win both.
Against Kingston it was never in doubt, with a comfortable 14-2 win.
The last match of the day was against Streatham and Clapham who had dominated tournaments last year and made it through to the National Schools finals. It was a must-win game.
A miss at goal at the first opportunity immediately put the girls on the back foot and Epsom were playing catchup.
Interceptions were made and the girls had the chance to take it back but tiredness from a busy sporting week and with it being the final match of the day led to uncharacteristic costly errors and they were not converted.
Despite not qualifying, this group of girls should be proud of their efforts. A number of watching umpires and other spectators commented on what a great team Epsom were.
