Epsom College Boys-U12A vs  Hurstpierpoint College
On: Wednesday, 17 Oct 2018
Venue: at Home

WON 50-15

The ever-improving U12A side played Hurstpierpoint, and with the Chuds soaked in winter rain and a howling wind to negotiate, an up-the-jumper battle seemed on the cards between these closely matched sides. Having won the toss Epsom's captain for the day Caspar Curran (Wa) chose to battle both the conditions and the slope. After a few errors by both sides, the forward pack of Fin Stirling (Wa), Jacob Elliot (GH), Ed Green (Hu), William New (Wa), and Ollie Crabb (GH) took hold of the game at the breakdown. Following this, Oscar Lent (Wa) proceeded to break the deadlock with some dynamic and evasive running to give Epsom an early lead. A Hurstpierpoint try was then followed up by another score to give Epsom a 20-5 lead at half time. During the break the boys identified the need to run with a little more depth in the back line and also to be more composed in possession. As the sides fatigued the game opened up, with Epsom's superior handling coming to the fore. Tries by Ben Berry (GH) and John Warfield (GH) were then followed by a score reminiscent of the French side of the early 90's. With all 12 players touching the ball in multiple phases the boys dragged the Hurstpierpoint defence around the pitch before Thabo Kuaho (GH) scored in the corner in his typical rapid and intelligent fashion. Dougal Freeman (Hu) continued his fine game as the match entered the later stages pulling the strings at scrum half often feeding the wholehearted wing pairing of Louis Simmons (Hu) and Kaylan Patel (Hu). As the game ended, Epsom were delighted with a 50-15 victory and a great lead-in to Saturdays final game of the half term against CLFS.

Tries: Lent (Wa) x4, Kuaho (GH) x2, Berry (GH) x2, Warfield (GH), Freeman (Hu)
