Drew 15-15

Another beautiful Saturday morning and another classic game for the U12As. In trademark fashion, they came from behind to secure a draw despite injuries, conditions, and the bounce of the ball evading them at times. Epsom fought against the slope in the opening half. With the RGS second row almost double the size of most the Epsom players, a little hesitancy in the early tackling left the team two scores down. Epsom's play was both pleasing on the eye and industrious but no real penetration was apparent until Oscar Lent (Wa) and Dougal Freeman (Hu) combined to reduce the deficit. Another RGS score left a 5-15 scoreline at the break. In the second half some excellent running by Ben Berry (GH), Louis Simmons (Hu), and the evasive John Warfield (GH) got the Epsom boys into a dangerous position before Lent finished the move off in pleasing fashion. Confidence was clearly growing and some well-judged kicks and excellent work at the break down by Jacob Elliott (GH) and the courageous Oliver Crabb (GH) saw Epsom take hold of the game. A well-worked move going through the majority of Epsom's hands then saw Thabo Kuaho (GH) produce a truly sparkling finish. With the score tied, the game then ebbed and flowed with Epsom looking likely to snatch a winning try. RGS then broke through and with a certain try in front of them were stopped by the heroic Edward Green (Hu). Putting his body on the line for his team mates, his last ditch tackle saved the match and led to a very fair 15-15 scoreline at the final whistle.

Tries: Lent (Wa) x2, Kuaho (GH)

Player of the Match: Oscar Lent (Wa)
