Player of the Day: Gina Liebenberg (Rv)

Alleyn’s 0-0 draw
An early start saw a dominant display that could not be converted into goals. The back 4 limited the amount of chances that Alleyn’s were able to create, which set up a good platform for the team to move forward. Epsom would squander the chances they created and the game finished 0-0.
Ibstock Place 3-2 win
A very good start the game was enough to see Epsom go 1-0 up very early on. However, a couple of lapses in concentration let Ibstock back into the game and then let them take the lead. Epsom showed very good resilience to fight back through two late goals from Farah Stephens-Martin and Gina Liebenberg 30 seconds from time.
Kingston Grammar 0-0 draw
Kingston are always a tough opponent and this again proved to be the case. Epsom showed they could match KGS creating some very good chances from down both wings. The back 4 of Maddie Wearne, Polly Campbell, Ellie Taylor and Madeleine Fairbank made a number of very good tackles which ensured the game stayed 0-0 at the finish.
St Dunstan’s 10-0 win
With Epsom needing a win and potentially by a large winning margin the girls did not disappoint as they romped to 10-0 win over St Dunstan’s. The team showed they could be versatile by playing with 3 defenders which allowed the team to push on for a greater goal difference. This win ensured Epsom would be in the quarter final.

Quarter Final vs Surbiton-High 1-0 win
From the start Epsom controlled the game and pressed Surbiton. But for some excellent goal keeping from the Surbiton High keeper the score could have been very high. With the game looking like it would be going to penalty strokes, a very late short corner was won, which resulted in a well-worked move and cool finish from Gina Liebenberg. Credit must also go to Bella Watkins for a couple of saves that denied Surbiton the chance to sneak a goal.

Semi Final vs Tormead 0-0 (lost 1-4 on penalty strokes)
After a short journey over to Reigate Grammar, Epsom faced Tormead in an end to end game. Chances were created by both sides and neither could finish them off, whihc resulted in the game finishing 0-0 and decided by penalty strokes. Tormead took 4 very good penalties and they were backed up by their goal keeper making some strong saves and Tormead advanced to the final.

3rd/4th playoff vs Kingston Grammar 1-1 (lost 0-3 on penalty strokes)
After the disappointment of the semi-final Epsom were slow to start and soon went 1-0 down. Again they showed they could bounce back and levelled through a short corner. Both sides had chances to take the win but it would finished 1-1 and penalties called once more. This proved too much for Epsom and Kingston ran out clear winner 3-0.

The side could be very proud of their performance throughout the day and can look forward to playing the U16 competition next year.
