A long day filled with mixed results, some disappointments but also some positives. A much better performance than in the Surrey Schools, with convincing wins against strong St Catherine’s and Surbiton teams, both of whom qualified for the Surrey Schools Finals. However, the girls faced teams with considerably more match experience and at times it showed. Some of the losses were painfully close, with the Epsom girls taking the lead but not maintaining it. Inconsistency, coupled with occasional lack of decisive play, cost them dearly, but this is a team still getting used to playing together and the nature of the short games in tournaments means that they did not have the luxury of learning from errors and adjusting play. However, the girls enjoyed the day, have a fantastic team spirit and are growing in confidence, and importantly have gained invaluable experience in tournament play.
