Venue: Away

WON 3-2

Epsom did not disappoint on a beautiful spring day at Cranleigh. The small pitch and poor surface away from home did not lend itself to a passing game and it proved to be a great leveller. Epsom could have gone three goals behind quite quickly with Cranleigh squandering a penalty against the post and some wild shooting early on. However, as the first half developed, Epsom held their nerve, remained patient, slowly took control of the possession stats and created their own chances with Tom Lynagh (F) bringing out an excellent point blank save from the Cranleigh keeper midway through the half. Ben Grubb (P), playing at right back, offered endless foraging runs forward and delivered cross after cross, but the final shot never really tested the keeper - it was 0-0 at half time. In the second half Epsom began to dominate and scored two goals in quick succession. The first came from Callum Holland (Rn) who latched on to a through ball to round the keeper and score into an open net. The second was from a long range shot which the keeper fumbled and Theo Alexis (P) was on hand to score from the rebound, after some excellent individual skill. Looking comfortable with 15 minutes to go Epsom decided to switch off and Cranleigh scored twice following some poor mistakes. It was 2-2 with less than four minutes to go, however, the boys' desire to win and the fitness of the Epsom team remained strong and with less than a minute to go Callum Holland (Rn) shot from distance, it took a slight deflection and looped over the keeper and hit the crossbar. Luckily, George Dignum (Rn) was following up and calmly passed the ball into an open net. A much deserved win for the team. Well done boys, three wins now, and targetting five or more before the end of the season.
