On a glorious Easter Monday Epsom’s 1st XI began their 2019 season with a 40 over fixture against south west London School, Emanuel. With a young side selected, due to injuries and unavailability, captain Tom Allen (Fa) won the toss and decided to make first use of the excellent batting conditions. After a steady start Epsom lost their first wicket before U4th debutant Ben Garrett (G) and James Webster (Fa) put together a solid and gutsy partnership. Webster made 30 before falling just shy of the half way mark. Captain Allen then came in and proceeded to clear the ropes twice before again falling with 34 off 16 balls to his name. Garrett continued to anchor the innings before falling shortly after passing his maiden half century for the 1st XI. The middle order then chipped in with Makeen Alikhan (Rn) scoring an unbeaten half century full of excellent running and clean striking.
In reply the visitors never really got going due to some initial tight bowling from Kartik Jain (G) and the hostile William Hodgson (C). As the run rate spiralled there were wickets for Nilesh Raghavan (P) 2-36, Tom Allen (Fa) 2-30, and Charlie Richardson (C) 3-32 as well as some tight bowling from Anish Patel (Rn). Emanuel finished on 186-7 leaving a 95 run win for Epsom.
