Match Report
Epsom College Boys-U16B vs  Brighton College
On: Saturday, 09 Nov 2019
Venue: Away

WON 26-0

As the clouds descended over the Brighton playing fields the U16Bs stepped on to the pitch to face a sizeable Brighton team. From the toss Epsom chose to play down the considerable slope and took the opportunity to pin the opposition in the corners of the pitch, whilst looking to build play from the set pieces. The dominant Epsom scrums and strong lineouts allowed the boys to score some well-constructed tries through AJ Hughes (Fa) and Oliver Carr-White (Fa). Finn Walmsley (H) converted two of these and the boys led 19-0 going into half time. The interval team talk was inspiring and the Epsom team’s energy and passion clear to see. They knew, however, that this game was not wrapped up, as the slope was going to prove to be a deciding factor, along with the torrential rain. As the second half started the heavens opened and the knock-ons began. With Epsom’s discipline constantly questioned the boys knew that they would have to keep the play tight in order to remain in control. Brighton spent most of the second half camped inside the Epsom 22, but strong defence kept the opposition away from the try line. A good exit in the last ten minutes allowed Ollie Butcher (H) to score his try. Brighton came back fighting but in the end were unable to capitalise due to the conditions and the excellent line speed of the Epsom boys.

Tries: Carr-White (Fa) x2, Hughes (Fa), Butcher (H)
