Match Report
Epsom College Boys-U15B vs  Brighton College
On: Saturday, 09 Nov 2019
Venue: Away

WON 7-0

Given the wind and rain in Epsom’s face, as well as having to play up a significant slope, one would be forgiven for assuming that Epsom would be a few tries down in the first half, but this was a game established by Epsom’s hardy defence. ‘One for the purists’ was heard on the touchline, yet it was anything but: this had tension in spades. Brighton tried to throw it wide, but the door was shut well by the centres and wings. When the opposition brought it tight with pick-and-goes, the Epsom forwards stepped up. This was a game where Epsom’s defence was to the fore rather than their attacking nous, which had been the case in previous matches. Epsom tried to pick and go as well, and made some good inroads, but it was spreading the ball in wet conditions that resulted in the only score of the match. In the second half, the amount of knock-ons by the opposition was almost matched by the amount of penalties that Epsom conceded, but this did not affect the scoreboard. In the adverse weather, Epsom showed their courage, defensive excellence and stuck to their game plan wonderfully.
