Match Report
Epsom College 1st XI vs  Sevenoaks School
On: Tuesday, 05 Nov 2019
Venue: at Home

Lost 0-5

Epsom’s Senior XI looked understandably rusty on the back of half term and were confronted by a very accomplished Sevenoaks squad, made up of their top players from a range of age groups. From the outset the Kent side dominated and Epsom found themselves under pressure from the first whistle. The Epsom defence battled hard and coped admirably with attacks coming from both wings but eventually a well-struck penalty corner saw Epsom concede. Tilly Wright (R) and Izzy Mitchell (R) worked tirelessly to keep the scoreline down but Sevenoaks dominated the midfield and outpaced the girls on the flanks. Goal opportunities were in abundance for the visitors and they took their chances well, many from set pieces. Half time could not come quickly enough for the home side, finding themselves 0-4 down. The second half was much better in terms of team shape, industry and endeavour. With four in the midfield, Tassy Williams (R) led by example and Sevenoaks found life tougher with less possession. Izzy Evans (R) in goal stepped up and made a string of first class saves, both shot stopping and in one on one encounters; this kept the scoreline to a minimum, with Sevenoaks only scoring once in the 35 minute second half. Epsom worked hard throughout, the full squad battling to the end and gaining much from the experience. The fixture against the tier 2 champions of last season exposed weaknesses that need addressing, but it certainly sharpened the Hockey brains quickly in preparation for the weekend fixtures and the half term ahead.
