Epsom College Girls-2nd XI vs  Brighton College Girls-U16A
On: Friday, 10 Sep 2021
Venue: at Home

WON 7-2

A great start to the Michaelmas Term, with the first game of the new season with parents in full attendance under lights on an Olympic standard hockey pitch on a Friday night - a better stage and atmosphere to kick hockey off at Epsom this term and year could not be found. It was a scrappy start to the game. However, Epsom scored first through a wonderful solo effort from Ella Stephens (R), who picked up the ball in her own half, beat several players en route to goal, and then struck a delightful hard shot from the top of the D to the bottom left hand corner – what a strike and goal (a goal of the season contender). Brighton then applied the pressure and Epsom did well to keep them out with some excellent saves from Amber Roberts (Wh) and some great team defending. However, Brighton won a third short corner in quick succession and the scores were levelled. With two minutes to half time Epsom put their second goal in to go in 2-1 up at half time, Charlotte Walker (Wh) scoring at the far post after some great passing interchanges. In the second half, Epsom went from strength to strength, with brilliant goals from Amy Henwood (Wh), Walker and Stephens, who finished with a hat-trick. A wonderful team performance. Amber Roberts (Wh) was outstanding in goal and Yasi Fryer (Rv), Georgie Jarvis Sobey (Cr) and Maddie Wearne (Cr) ran tirelessly all evening and were extremely influential throughout the game and Farrah Stephens-Martin (M) created a stream of assists. A great all-round team performance - well done girls.
