A long day saw the U12B team finish 5th overall out of 21 teams in the In2Hockey Surrey Plate.
Out of the six group matches played Epsom had three good wins, two draws - which they were unlucky to not win against Thomas’s Battersea and Wimbledon High, only to be scuppered by a late goal and the post - and lost one against Surbiton High, who caught the girls cold in the first game.
The highlight of the group stages would have to be the 4-0 win over CLFS, with four excellently worked goals, finished by Ali Rugina (Hu), Olivia Diri (Hu) and Katie McNeil (Hu). Praise must also go to goalkeeper Lucy Stephens (Hu) and Katie Reid (Wa) for their outstanding defensive work on a number of occasions.
Having finished 3rd in the group Epsom had a rematch against Surbiton High School and another close game ensued. Epsom had a number of good chances to take the lead but could not convert. Surbiton were able to catch Epsom on the break, scoring two goals, one late on, which put them through to the semi-final.
Another rematch followed against CLFS for 5th place. Again Epsom showed dominance producing another strong display to run out 2-0 winners to finish 5th overall.
The team should be very proud of coming in 5th place in what is one of strongest counties in the country and can look forward to the remainder of the hockey season with excitement.
Player of the Tournament: Olivia Key (Hu) - for her high work rate and excellent play in and around the circle.
