Lost 17-27

Epsom’s final home game of the term ended in a close defeat to Hampton. The visitors started fast and Epsom found themselves behind on the scoreboard early on. Hampton took full advantage of Epsom’s mistakes and raced into a 13-0 lead. To their credit Epsom fought back, the first real attacking opportunity resulting in a penalty which Tom Lynagh (F) confidently slotted from 25m out. With the score at 13-3 Epsom started to enjoy more possession, keeping the ball alive at every opportunity. Good work from Bryn Bradley (H) and Ollie Matthews (F) took play deep into Hampton's 22, the ball was moved wide to Will Butt (Rn) who was held up short of the line. From the ruck Olaiya Adeniji (F) bulldozed his way over from close range and with Tom Lynagh (F) adding the extras, Hampton’s lead at the break was 13-10. The momentum was now swinging Epsom’s way and the second half started promisingly. A well-executed lineout play involving Kade Bird (Fa) and Bryn Bradley put Josh Lyon (Fa) into space and he was tackled 10m out from Hampton’s line. Epsom failed to capitalise on this break and Hampton seemed to gain confidence in this. Two more close range tries from Hampton took the game away from Epsom but the never-say-die attitude from the team saw George Morley (C) go over from close range, rounding off a flowing move. Lynagh added the conversion and despite a late rally from Epsom, Hampton held out to secure their win 27-17. The 1st XV now look forward to their final outing of the season on 29th May at Esher Rugby Club playing Sedbergh, Whitgift and Millfield in a quad festival.

Tries: Adeniji (F), Morley (C)
