Epsom College Girls-U13A vs  ISFA U13 Girls' Regional Qualifiers
On: Tuesday, 11 May 2021
Venue: Away

On Tuesday 11th May, 10 girls from the Lower School competed in the South East Regional Qualifiers for the ISFA National Cup.
The girls faced St. Thomas’s Battersea in the first group match. Some early nerves were shaken off by an outstanding passing move, finished off by Keira Johnson (GH), with Lucie Jones (GH) getting the assist. The match was closely fought by both teams, with Epsom unlucky to suffer a 2-1 defeat.
The second group match against Alleyn’s was an equally tight affair, with Epsom dominating possession of the ball and having the better of the chances. Some fantastic defending by Erin Speed (Hu), Izzy Giles (Hu) and Violet Ollerhead (Wa), as well as some confident goalkeeping from Sophia Moores (Wa), ensured that the girls kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw.
With a point on the board and with confidence growing into the third and final group match, Epsom faced ACS Cobham. By far the most physical opposition, the girls battled hard but were unlucky to concede on the stroke of half time, before ultimately losing 1-0.
With the knowledge that they had not qualified, in a play-off match against King Edward’s Witley, Epsom were able to play with more freedom. This resulted in the best performance of the day and a 2-0 victory, with goals from Keira Johnson and Flo Freeman (Wa) and assists from Alexa Neglen (Hu) and Lucie Jones.
For some of the girls this was their first ever competitive football match or tournament. Given the relative inexperience of the squad, all players acquitted themselves fantastically on the day. Congratulations to Ariana Newton (GH), Amber Griffin (Hu), Alexa Neglen (Hu), Sophia Moores (Wa), Erin Speed (Hu), Violet Ollerhead (Wa), Izzy Giles (Hu), Keira Johnson (GH), Flo Freeman (Wa) and Lucie Jones (GH).
